Ben Kingsley Has Several Films in the Works

With multiple film roles lined up, the outlook for Ben Kingsley, one of the stars in this summer’s blockbuster “Iron Man Three,” appears very bright. It seems that the Oscar winner has become a highly sought-after commodity. Kingsley plays “the Mandarin,” opposite of Robert Downey Junior In “Iron Man 3.” Thirty years ago, Kingsley won the Academy Award for Best Male Actor at the 1983 Academy Awards, winning the award as a relatively unknown thespian for his memorable performance in the Academy Award-winning film “Gandhi,” which took home the trophy for “Best Picture.” Critics have called Kingsley’s depiction Mohandas Gandhi in the film one of the strongest depictions of a real person in the history of cinema.

Over the years, Kingsley, a British-born actor, has starred or costarred in a number of distinguished films, and he has worked with a number of highly respected actors, actresses and directors. After sharing the screen in “Gandhi” with a young Daniel Day-Lewis and Martin Sheen, Kingsley had a co-starring role in the 1993 award-winning film “Schindler’s List,” starring alongside Liam Neeson. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg. Kingsley worked with Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis in the 2006 film “Lucky Number Slevin.” Kingsley also appears in the 2010 Martin Scorsese directed film “Shutter Island.”

According to Internet Movie Database, Kingsley will appear in six movies this year, plus another four next year. The actor, who hosts a television program distributed on public TV stations called “Outlook with Ben Kingsley,” appeared earlier this year in “A Birder’s Guide to Everything” and has another four movies set for release later this year. Next year, look for Sir Ben Kingsley in “The Boxtrolls,” “Our Robot Overlords” and “Mary Mother of Christ,” in which Kingsley will play King Herod.

Ben Kingsley Reaches 70 with New Roles on Horizon

For most people, hitting the age 70 mark is a time to start taking it easy, taking some time to travel, and even spend time with family. That is not Ben Kingsley. The 69 year-old actor approaches his 70^th birthday this year with a big schedule of films set for release in the coming months and a full schedule of upcoming projects on the horizon for 2014.

Later this year, Kingsley will be a part of the cast of Ender’s Game, a sci-fi thriller set for a release November 1, in time for the holiday film season. In the film, Kingsley stars alongside Harrison Ford in this futuristic story of a child who is groomed to protect the planet from invasion.

While he waits for the release of this highly anticipated film, Kingsley has plenty to keep him busy. He is currently working on two films set for a 2014 release. The animated feature The Boxtrolls is based on the novel Here be Monsters and the like action film Our Robot Overlords are both benefiting from the work of this Academy Award winning actor, and Kingsley is also taking on a new challenge on the small screen as well.

Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley seems to be heading into the prime of his career at an age when most actors and actresses have retired. Kingsley, host of the Outlook with Ben Kingsley show, which is carried on public television stations across the United States, including some stations affiliated with the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), will appear in a number of movies scheduled for release this year, as well as some feature films set to hit movie theaters in 2014.

Kingsley, the British-born actor who won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1983 for his performance as Mohandas Gandhi in the 1982 biopic "Gandhi," has enjoyed a prestigious career in Hollywood, working alongside some of the best actors, actresses and directors in show business. His movie credits include two films that when the Academy Award for Best Picture, as well as work with Academy Award-winning directors. The film for which Kingsley received his Academy Award, “Gandhi,” won Best Picture in 1983, as did “Schindler’s List,” the 1993 Steven Spielberg-directed classic which took home the Oscar for Best Picture in 1994. This film, in which Kingsley plays Itzhak Stern, the Jewish accountant of the film’s protagonist, Oskar Schindler, played by Liam Neeson, regularly ranks as one of the greatest films of all time.
